Light Portal Future Rail City

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2020

Verdant ribbons of biomorphic landscape unfurl through the heart of a metropolitan grid in QUAD studio's Light Portal Future Rail City, presenting an aerial perspective that reveals the masterful integration of organic curvilinear forms within an orthogonal urban matrix of high-rise towers rendered in cool grays and silvered glass, the compositional architecture establishing a dramatic central spine that bisects the image vertically while simultaneously creating a rhythmic alternation between constructed density and programmed green space, with the chromatic palette orchestrating a sophisticated dialogue between the viridian, chartreuse, and emerald greens of the landscaped zones against the neutral cement grays and steel blues of the surrounding towers, punctuated by chromatic accents of cadmium orange, marigold yellow, coral pink, and lavender violet within the central garden passages that read as jewel-like insertions of saturated color against the predominant green and gray matrix, the luminosity suggesting diffused overcast conditions with soft even illumination that eliminates harsh shadows while permitting subtle tonal gradations across the building facades, the spatial construction employing a modified zenithal perspective that grants near-planimetric legibility to the ground plane while maintaining sufficient obliquity to reveal the volumetric massing of the towers through their visible rooftops and diminishing vertical faces, surface textures differentiated between the smooth reflective skins of the glass towers, the matte vegetated surfaces of lawn and planted areas, and the harder paved surfaces of roads and plazas, edge behaviors ranging from the crisp rectilinear boundaries of building footprints to the sinuous flowing edges of the landscape interventions that recall the organic geometries of parametric design or the flowing forms of landscape architects working within biomorphic traditions, the overall atmospheric resonance suggesting a vision of future urbanism where technological infrastructure and ecological systems achieve harmonious synthesis.

Light Portal is masterplan of Yibin Highspeed Rail City. A reform of lifestyle recommends to all age all year round. Next to Yibin High Speed Rail Station which operated since June 2019, Yibin Greenland Centre comprises of 160m tall mixed-use Twin Towers integrate architecture and nature with the 1km long landscape boulevard. Yibin has a history for more than 4000 years, accumulating wisdom and culture just like the sediment in the river marked the development of Yibin. The Twin Towers serve as a light portal to guide visitors as well as a landmark for residents to assemble.
