Z Line House Private Residential

Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2020

Revano Satria's Z Line House Private Residential commands the visual field through a dramatic interplay of angular white planes that thrust dynamically against a cerulean twilight sky, creating a composition of extraordinary geometric audacity and sculptural presence. The architectural photograph captures the residence at blue hour, when the deep cobalt atmosphere provides maximum chromatic contrast to the pristine titanium white surfaces of the building's faceted envelope. The compositional architecture follows a powerful diagonal thrust from lower left to upper right, with the illuminated stairway functioning as a leading line that draws the eye upward through the terraced levels toward the dramatic cantilevered upper volume. This uppermost element, with its sharply folded roof planes reminiscent of origami or crystalline formations, creates the primary focal point against the graduated blue field of the evening sky. The figure-ground relationship achieves remarkable clarity through the stark tonal opposition between the luminous white structure and the deepening twilight, while secondary elements including the infinity-edge pool at mid-level and the verdant hillside vegetation provide contextual grounding. The chromatic palette operates within a sophisticated limited range: warm artificial illumination emanating from interior spaces and integrated step lighting creates amber and cream accents that contrast with the cool blue ambient light washing the exterior surfaces. Spatial construction employs dramatic perspectival recession, with the stairway's orthogonals creating strong depth cues, while the overlapping angular volumes establish a complex layered spatial hierarchy. The surface treatment reveals smooth, planar materiality suggesting rendered concrete or composite panels, with crisp hard edges defining each geometric facet. The lighting paradigm masterfully combines warm interior incandescence visible through expansive glazing with the cool environmental illumination of civil twilight, creating a thermal dialogue that animates the otherwise pristine white surfaces with subtle chromatic modulation. The overall atmospheric resonance suggests aspiration, modernity, and refined luxury, while the dynamic angular forms evoke movement and transformation frozen in architectural permanence.

Z Line House is one challenging project of private residential that is built through a long five years of design and construction. The geometry of the house is aimed to maximize the existing site's potential, a series of calculated geometric and sculpture like interventions on the facade exploits the tension between conflicting elements. The geometry is optimised in such a way to control the water flow from the rainfall condition in tropical area. The result is an optimised geometry for a specific site that was parametrically calculated to have an optimum performance.
