Taizhou Mansion Commercial Architecture

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2020

FENG CHENG's Taizhou Mansion Commercial Architecture presents a masterfully orchestrated twilight composition where the liminal threshold between interior sanctuary and exterior landscape dissolves through deliberate spatial choreography and refined material dialogue, the eye entering along a powerful one-point perspective established by the elongated covered walkway that extends from the immediate foreground deep into the middle distance where warm interior illumination beckons through floor-to-ceiling glazing, the compositional armature employing classical axial symmetry modified by asymmetrical landscape interventions that introduce organic counterpoint to the rigorous geometric framework, the chromatic palette operating within a sophisticated restricted range of cool blue-grays in the twilight sky graduating through neutral warm whites of the architectural surfaces to the deep charcoal gray of the stone paving which anchors the visual weight at the ground plane, accent lighting introduces warm amber notes that glow from recessed ground fixtures creating pools of golden luminosity that trace the circulation path and uplighting the skeletal winter trees whose delicate branching patterns create intricate calligraphic silhouettes against the pale sky, the spatial construction achieves remarkable depth through the strong linear perspective reinforced by the converging ceiling plane and parallel wall surfaces while the landscaped zone at right introduces lateral expansion preventing the corridor from becoming oppressive, textural richness emerges from the juxtaposition of smooth plastered walls, polished stone flooring with subtle aggregate variation, precisely detailed metal frames in matte black finish, and the sculptural topiary forms of manicured shrubs that provide soft organic counterpoint, the lighting paradigm captures the magical blue hour moment when natural ambient light balances artificial illumination creating atmospheric softness in the sky while architectural lighting defines edges and guides movement, the overall spatial composition evokes contemplative serenity through the measured rhythm of architectural elements and the careful framing of nature within the built environment, demonstrating sophisticated understanding of procession, threshold, and the phenomenological experience of moving through space

The project was designed by UCGD, commissioned by VANKE. And this is VANKE’s first project to implement the standardized module design. The design of the building focuses on making a positive contribution to the surroundings.Because of the narrow site, the project was to create natural surroundings of the building and keep connection in-between. Due to referencing Chinese garden, the walls give the project its own character, which not only lowed the impact of messy environment, but also create many winding paths and framed beautiful spaces.
