Shanxiao Sales Office

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2020

Qun Wen's Shanxiao Sales Pavilion Sales Office presents a striking architectural composition centered upon a crystalline glass pavilion that rises with geometric precision from an expansive reflective pool, creating a mesmerizing dialogue between built form and mirrored image that doubles the visual complexity of the scene. The primary focal point emerges as a sculptural white mass of horizontally stratified elements resembling abstracted mountain peaks or layered geological formations, these undulating organic forms contained within the rigid orthogonal framework of a transparent glass box that spans approximately two stories in height. The compositional architecture demonstrates bilateral symmetry along a central vertical axis, with the reflecting pool serving as the horizontal datum that bisects the visual field into complementary zones of reality and reflection. The chromatic palette operates within a refined range of cool neutrals dominated by cerulean and powder blue in the expansive sky, warm ivory and titanium white in the sculptural cloud-like masses, and deep charcoal to obsidian black in the reflective water surface that absorbs and mirrors surrounding forms. Luminosity emanates from diffused natural daylight suggesting mid-morning or late afternoon golden hour conditions, casting soft shadows and creating gentle tonal gradations across the striated white surfaces while the glass envelope allows interior illumination to glow subtly within. Spatial construction employs atmospheric perspective with verdant hillsides and mature conifers receding into soft blue-green haze at left and right peripheries, while the strict one-point perspective of the rectangular pavilion anchors the middle ground with commanding geometric authority. The textural vocabulary juxtaposes the smooth polished surface of still water against the rhythmic horizontal striations of the white sculptural elements, themselves suggesting stacked planes of material perhaps aluminum or composite panels with crisp linear edges. Edge treatment varies between the hard geometric boundaries of the glass curtain wall and the softer organic contours of the cloud-like interior masses, creating productive visual tension between Euclidean precision and biomorphic fluidity. Stylistic coordinates position this work within contemporary parametric architecture traditions resonant with practices of Zaha Hadid Architects, MAD Architects, and digital fabrication-enabled formal explorations, while the integration of landscape and water features echoes classical East Asian garden design principles of borrowed scenery and contemplative reflection.

The designer aimed for visitors to experience the artistic conception of ‘hidden in nature.’ the entire project has two parts, the sales office and the commercial area. the sales office is a smaller part of the building, but is executed with an exquisite and delicate aesthetic. it is naturally engraved and hidden in nature, thus highlighting the concept of ‘seclusion’.
