Golden A' Design Award Winner 2018
Crisp titanium white vertical elements punctuate the visual field with rhythmic precision, establishing Xenofon Hector Grigorelis's NoW.0 Radiator as a commanding sculptural presence against the warm grey cement-rendered wall that serves as its architectural backdrop. The composition orchestrates a sophisticated dialogue between industrial functionality and decorative artistry, positioning the radiator at the compositional golden mean where it commands attention while maintaining harmonious integration with the surrounding interior environment. The chromatic palette operates through deliberate restraint, with the dominant titanium white of the radiator's elongated vertical fins creating stark value contrast against the middle-grey cementitious surfaces that envelope the space in cool, mineral tonality. Interspersed among the white elements, several horizontal wooden insertions introduce organic warmth through their rich amber-to-walnut graduated tones, establishing a complementary temperature dialogue between cool industrial metal and warm natural timber. The spatial construction employs sophisticated atmospheric perspective, with the floor-to-ceiling glazing at left revealing a verdant landscape of summer foliage rendered in soft focus sage and emerald greens beneath a luminous pearl-grey sky, this environmental context establishing seasonal warmth and natural connection. Directional illumination enters from the expansive window aperture, casting precise diagonal shadows across the polished concrete floor while creating subtle gradations of warm golden light that bathe the foreground wooden platform steps in honey-toned luminosity. The stepped wooden platform ascends in three horizontal planes of pale ash-toned timber, their natural grain patterns creating optical texture that grounds the industrial interior with organic tactility. A cognac-toned leather armchair occupies the right middle ground, its warm burnt sienna surface and slender black metal framework establishing domestic comfort within the minimalist architectural envelope. Adjacent to the chair, a cream-colored ceramic pedestal table of hourglass form provides sculptural counterpoint through its smooth curved profile. The radiator itself exhibits extraordinary formal sophistication, its composition of staggered vertical bars creating a syncopated rhythm reminiscent of modernist graphic notation or De Stijl compositional principles, with the irregular spacing generating visual interest through calculated asymmetry within an overall rectangular format. Edge treatment maintains crisp industrial precision throughout, with hard contours defining each metallic element while softer atmospheric transitions occur in the background landscape passage. The vertical orientation of the radiator emphasizes ascending movement, drawing the eye upward through its rhythmic ladder-like structure while the horizontal wooden elements provide visual pause and material contrast. Surface qualities range from the presumed smooth powder-coated finish of the white metal components to the tactile grain of natural wood insertions, establishing a material dialogue between processed industrial production and organic craftsmanship.
The vertical designed lines are self connected with a special shape and give the object its defined outline. The oversized dimensions 1800X450mm and its shape offer a unique character. Its aluminium metal construction and the ability to use any desired colour, produce a special and commonly acceptable piece of work.
