Flexhouse Residential building

Evolution Design's Flexhouse Residential building emerges from the twilight landscape as a sculptural testament to parametric design principles, its sinuous white form commanding attention against the deep cobalt gradient of the dusk sky that transitions from ultramarine at the zenith to a warmer cerulean near the horizon. The architectural composition occupies the upper two-thirds of the frame, positioned slightly left of center, creating a dynamic asymmetrical balance that draws the eye along the building's remarkable curvilinear envelope. The structure's facade presents a masterful interplay between transparency and opacity, with expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing panels framed by continuous flowing bands of white metal cladding that undulate across multiple levels like a frozen ribbon caught mid-movement. The fenestration system employs elongated vertical proportions punctuated by dramatic curved corners that soften the geometric severity while maintaining structural clarity. Warm incandescent illumination emanates from within, creating luminous amber rectangles that contrast exquisitely with the cool blue atmospheric envelope, producing a thermal chromatic dialogue between interior warmth and exterior coolness. The building rises from a substantial gabion retaining wall constructed of wire mesh baskets filled with local stone, their rough textural character providing an earthbound counterpoint to the ethereal smoothness of the structure above. A sweeping asphalt roadway curves through the foreground, its surface catching subtle reflections of ambient light, establishing a procession path that guides the viewer's gaze upward toward the architectural subject. Secondary contextual elements include neighboring residential structures visible at the periphery, their more conventional forms serving to emphasize the distinctive sculptural quality of the primary subject. Flexhouse is a single-family home on Lake Zurich in Switzerland. Built on a challenging triangular plot of land, squeezed between the railway line and the local access road, Flexhouse is the result of overcoming many architectural challenges: restrictive boundary distances and building volume, triangular shape of the plot, restrictions regarding local vernacular. The resulting building with its wide walls of glass and a ribbon-like white façade is so light and mobile in appearance that it resembles a futuristic vessel that has sailed in from the lake and found itself a natural place to dock.
