Xinhe Group HQ Office

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2025

Pengfei He's Xinhe Group Headquarters Office emerges through atmospheric twilight as a masterfully articulated composition wherein horizontal architectural volumes step progressively upward in a cascading terraced formation, their linear geometries rendered in warm terracotta-toned cladding panels and expansive curtain wall glazing that captures the cool cerulean and slate grey tonalities of the overcast sky above. The compositional armature adheres to classical principles of bilateral near-symmetry, with the building mass anchored centrally while the dramatic expanse of a perfectly still reflecting pool occupies the entire foreground, creating a mesmerizing doubling effect that extends the architectural presence vertically through mirrored inversion. The chromatic orchestration moves between the warm umber and sienna hues of the corten-like metallic panels, the cool blue-grey of extensive glass facades, and the verdant olive and sage greens of mature deciduous trees that soften the building's horizontal emphasis. Luminosity operates through the interplay of ambient overcast daylight filtering through stratocumulus cloud formations with strategically placed architectural illumination, golden accent lights tracing pathways and defining ground-level terraces that emit warm amber glows against the cooling twilight atmosphere. The spatial construction employs atmospheric perspective masterfully, with the building's crisp horizontal bands receding into soft-focus distance while foreground elements including weathered stones at the water's edge and delicate reed grasses establish intimate scale. A sculptural pavilion structure at right, featuring dramatically angled planes suggestive of folded origami or abstracted natural forms, provides asymmetrical counterpoint to the dominant horizontal masses. Edge treatment varies purposefully between the hard geometric precision of architectural forms and the soft organic boundaries of foliage and water reflections, creating visual rhythm through contrast. The work exemplifies contemporary sustainable corporate architecture with biophilic design sensibilities, suggesting influences from landscape-integrated institutional precedents while achieving a meditative quality through the profound stillness of the water mirror and the harmonious integration of built form with cultivated nature.

The site is in FuYang, surrounded by small hills and water on three sides. This area was once home to water birds, and the way they spread their wings in flight is full of energy and movement. This matches the clients vision perfectly. Thats why the architect chose the flying bird as the design inspiration. The Xinhe Headquarters shows how an office building can work in harmony with nature. Instead of fighting against the environment, the design embraces it, making the building a place where people and nature connect in a positive way.
