Soaring towers of steel-blue glass and warm terracotta cladding rise in a staggered vertical composition within hpa Ho and Partners Architects's Jiangangshan Number 1 Residential Buildings, presenting a masterfully orchestrated ensemble of high-rise residential structures that command the eye through their rhythmic interplay of solid and void, opacity and transparency, warm and cool chromatic temperatures that dance across the façades in a sophisticated visual symphony, where the primary focal points emerge as the twin towers flanking the composition's left and right margins, their slender profiles punctuated by projecting balconies that create a dynamic horizontal counterpoint to the dominant verticality, while the middle ground reveals secondary towers of varying heights establishing a layered spatial recession that activates the pictorial depth through overlapping forms and atmospheric perspective, the compositional architecture adhering to principles of asymmetrical balance wherein the visual weight distributed across approximately eight vertical masses creates a skyline silhouette that reads as both unified and varied, the chromatic palette oscillating between cerulean and cobalt glazing panels that capture the pale azure of the overcast sky and reflect it back in cooler blue-gray tonalities contrasted against warm peach and salmon-tinted cladding elements that introduce thermal contrast and prevent chromatic monotony, the luminosity conditions suggesting diffused daylight filtering through high cloud cover producing soft shadow gradients beneath the projecting elements and eliminating harsh contrasts while maintaining sufficient directional quality to reveal the three-dimensional modeling of each architectural volume, the spatial construction employing multiple overlapping planes that recede from the immediate foreground water feature through the ceremonial entry pavilion into the forest of towers beyond, with atmospheric perspective naturally desaturating and softening the most distant structures, the surface textures conveying optical qualities of reflective glass, smooth rendered concrete, and metallic framing elements, edge behaviors varying from crisp geometric profiles against sky to softer transitions where architectural forms overlap, the stylistic coordinates suggesting contemporary international residential tower typology with sensitivity to human scale through the articulated podium and ceremonial gateway that mediates between pedestrian experience and monumental verticality, the mood conveying aspiration, modernity, and cultivated urban living within thoughtfully landscaped grounds.
Jiangangshan Number 1 is a residential development located in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China. The project has a total construction area of 394,000 square meters. The layout follows the natural topography next to Dajing Mountain Park, so that the homes can face the mountain and forest landscape. Building types include residences, a kindergarten, a commercial street and supporting facilities. Residential and public buildings are placed in two clusters to keep the living areas quiet. A circular fitness trail of 700 meters runs through the central garden.
