Xiangcheng Paradise Walk Shopping Mall

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2025

Shen Junwei's Xiangcheng Paradise Walk Shopping Mall presents a breathtaking vertical atrium composition where sinuous white balcony ribbons spiral upward through multiple levels, creating an organic architectural choreography that defies the rectilinear conventions of commercial retail design. The eye ascends through cascading tiers of luminous white parapets that undulate with fluid grace, their serpentine curves generating dynamic visual rhythms against the geometric precision of glass storefronts below. A magnificent curvilinear skylight crowns the composition, its organic aperture admitting generous daylight that suffuses the entire volume with cool, crystalline illumination suggesting midday clarity. The chromatic palette operates in sophisticated restraint: dominant titanium whites and pearl grays establish architectural purity, punctuated by warm retail signage in teal, crimson, and amber that provides chromatic counterpoint without disrupting spatial serenity. The perspectival system employs dramatic vertical recession, with the viewer positioned at an intermediate level looking both upward toward the skylight and downward to the ground floor, creating vertiginous spatial depth. Floor surfaces in polished cream stone reflect ambient light, while a geometric checkerboard pattern in black and white marble provides grounding contrast and human scale reference. The flowing balustrades feature integrated linear LED illumination that traces their organic contours, emphasizing the parametric design language throughout. Glass railings maintain visual transparency, allowing unobstructed sightlines across the vast central void. Small human figures scattered across multiple levels establish scale, their diminutive presence emphasizing the monumental architectural gesture. The atmospheric quality suggests refined commercial luxury, where biomorphic architectural expression transforms utilitarian retail space into experiential spectacle, evoking the fluid aesthetics associated with contemporary parametric design movements.

The challenge for the designers was to create a modern eco fashion shopping center in the classical garden city of Suzhou. The design concept for this project, dancing waters in forested streams, blends the elegance of Suzhou's garden waters with the natural waters of Xiangcheng. It transitions from calm to lively to energetic. The project features an experiential space on its upper floors called Moon Island. This area highlights the project's new social and experiential formats.
