NN Pharmaceutical Office Design

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025

Warm honey-toned oak timber establishes the material foundation of DA Architects's NN Pharmaceutical Office Design, where stepped seating platforms cascade diagonally across the foreground in a rhythmic terracing that evokes amphitheater architecture translated into contemporary workplace vernacular. The compositional armature follows a dynamic diagonal recession from lower left toward upper right, creating a visual corridor that draws the eye through layered spatial zones defined by material transitions and vertical datum shifts. Cushioned seating elements in coral, sage, and cool grey punctuate the pale timber surfaces, their soft geometric forms creating chromatic accents against the neutral wood grain while establishing an analogous-with-complement color harmony that balances warmth with sophisticated restraint. Above, an exposed ceiling system reveals its structural logic through angular acoustic baffles finished in warm grey, their triangular facets creating a tessellated canopy that modulates both sound and visual rhythm across the upper register. Spherical pendant luminaires in opalescent white glass descend at varied heights, their diffused warm illumination approximately 3000K casting gentle ambient light that eliminates harsh shadows while creating subtle highlight gradations across the timber surfaces. A gridded shelving unit functions as spatial divider, its compartments populated with verdant potted plants whose organic forms introduce biophilic softness against the rectilinear architectural framework. The middle ground reveals a circulation corridor bathed in cooler blue-grey tones, where a curved LED light element traces an elegant arc against the wall surface, its contemporary gesture contrasting with the orthogonal discipline of surrounding millwork. Material palette demonstrates considered restraint: natural oak veneer, grey terrazzo flooring, painted plaster, and fabric upholstery create tactile diversity within chromatic unity. The spatial organization suggests activity-based working principles, with the stepped seating inviting informal gathering while peripheral zones accommodate focused tasks and refreshment. Edge behaviors vary strategically, with crisp joinery at timber intersections transitioning to soft upholstery contours, creating visual interest through contrast between precision and comfort.

The project for the new NN office in Sofia aims to transform the working structure of the Bulgarian branch of Dutch pharmaceutical leader by creating a more efficient environment that stimulates collaboration and teamwork. To achieve this, the designers created a contemporary office that provides the necessary spaces for interaction between employees, combined with zones where one can feel comfortable and cozy, like in their own personal space. This ensures a smooth transition to working in open spaces with a flexible approach to utilizing the various zones by each employee.
