Panlong Tiandi Mtpt Retail Store

Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025

Minghong Ou's Panlong Tiandi Mtpt Retail Store presents an interior retail environment where warm natural wood tones establish dominant chromatic presence across expansive ceiling planes and vertical architectural elements, their honey-colored surfaces exhibiting pronounced linear grain patterns that flow diagonally across the upper register, creating dynamic directional vectors guiding the eye through layered spatial zones while the medium-value timber contrasts dramatically against cool neutral gray flooring in what appears to be polished concrete or terrazzo finish reflecting ambient illumination and establishing stable horizontal grounding for the composition; the spatial architecture employs sophisticated layering and transparent penetration, with the foreground occupied by a sculptural curved display column integrating vivid emerald green screen or panel technology within charcoal gray or black cylindrical housing, this biomorphic form serving as primary focal anchor positioned slightly right of center and drawing immediate attention through chromatic intensity and formal singularity against the predominantly neutral palette, while secondary wooden structural columns frame the middle ground, one substantial beam descending vertically at center supporting a conical black pendant light fixture whose geometric form echoes industrial or mid-century modern design vocabularies; the background reveals deep spatial recession through transparent glazing systems allowing verdant exterior landscaping to penetrate the interior visually, establishing dialogue between built environment and natural world, with glimpses of foliage in fresh spring greens creating atmospheric depth and suggesting biophilic design integration, while additional retail zones visible in lateral peripheries display hanging garments in muted tones of navy, charcoal, and cream establishing merchandising context; compositional structure demonstrates asymmetrical balance with weighted distribution favoring right side through placement of curved digital column yet achieving equilibrium through architectural framing elements and horizontal stratification of wood ceiling against floor plane, the rule of thirds loosely governing placement of key vertical elements while golden section proportions may inform overall spatial divisions; lighting paradigm combines natural daylight filtering through exterior glazing with artificial ambient illumination and focused pendant downlighting, creating layered luminosity where warm diffused environmental light bathes wooden surfaces in gentle glow suggesting late morning or afternoon hours while maintaining even visibility throughout commercial space without harsh shadows, the conical fixture providing targeted task lighting yet appearing currently unlit in captured moment; textural vocabulary encompasses smooth polished surfaces of flooring and glazing contrasted against organic grain of timber elements and implied tactile variety of hanging textiles, while edge treatment demonstrates sophisticated interplay of hard architectural boundaries defining structural elements against soft atmospheric transitions in background zones where interior dissolves into exterior greenery; spatial construction employs two-point linear perspective with vanishing points beyond frame edges, evident in converging lines of ceiling beams and floor edges creating convincing three-dimensional recession, enhanced by overlapping planes, scale diminution of background elements, and atmospheric perspective softening distant details; the stylistic affiliation suggests contemporary minimalist retail design influenced by Scandinavian and Japanese material sensibilities emphasizing natural materiality, clean geometric forms, technological integration, and spatial transparency, resonant with sustainable design movements prioritizing warmth and human connection within commercial environments while the integration of living greenery and natural light evokes biophilic principles; the overall atmospheric resonance conveys serene sophistication, welcoming openness balanced with refined restraint, contemporary elegance grounded in organic materiality, and spatial generosity inviting leisurely browsing and contemplative engagement with merchandise within environment that honors both product presentation and human comfort.

This project is located in Panlong Tiandi, in the northeastern part of Xujing Town, Qingpu District, Shanghai. The space combines the profound cultural heritage of Panlong Ancient Town with the characteristics of Mtpt products, using materials, shapes, sounds, and light and shadow to blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, artificial and natural, with the theme of Touching Nature, allowing the beauty of nature to enter within the space and achieving a symbiotic fusion between architecture and landscape.
