What Next Brand Identity

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025

Bold black typographic forms command the visual field in Marko Stanojevic's What Next Brand Identity, where two stacked words rendered in a robust sans-serif typeface establish an assertive geometric presence against a pristine white paper surface photographed at a dynamic diagonal angle. The compositional architecture exploits the tension between the rigid orthogonal letterforms and the acute angular placement of the paper substrate, which enters the frame from the upper left corner and extends toward the lower right, creating a compelling diagonal thrust that energizes the otherwise static typographic arrangement. The chromatic strategy operates within an austere monochromatic palette of pure black against bright white, with the surrounding neutral gray backdrop providing subtle tonal modulation that prevents visual monotony while maintaining the stark graphic impact essential to contemporary identity design. Two angular arrow-like forms punctuate the right edge of the typographic block, their chevron geometry creating directional momentum that reinforces the forward-thinking interrogative spirit embedded in the brand name itself. The larger lower arrow, rendered as a solid geometric shape combining a triangular point with a rectangular base, anchors the composition with visual weight while its smaller counterpart above maintains proportional harmony. Lighting appears soft and diffused, emanating from an overhead position that casts a subtle shadow beneath the paper's lifted corner, grounding the presentation in three-dimensional space while preserving the clean legibility essential to brand identity applications. The paper's gentle curl introduces organic dimensionality to the geometric rigor of the typography, suggesting materiality and physical presence that transcends purely digital representation. Surface texture reveals the smooth matte finish of premium paper stock, its subtle tooth visible in the slightly granular quality of the white ground. Edge treatment maintains crisp definition throughout the letterforms, their hard geometric boundaries creating maximum contrast and ensuring immediate readability. The stylistic approach aligns with contemporary minimalist graphic design traditions, echoing the reductive clarity championed by Swiss modernist principles while incorporating the bold directness associated with contemporary brand identity systems. Atmospheric resonance conveys confidence, clarity, and forward momentum, the interrogative nature of the brand name balanced by the assertive visual delivery that suggests expertise and decisiveness rather than uncertainty.

Final visual outcome is reached by taking a symbol and turning it into a question mark by placing it on a smaller square below (an extracted 1/4 piece of a big square above it) and putting it on a tipping point while remaining in balance, creating a visual sensation of tension with a minimal rearrangement of elements. What Next logo, as well as the name, are in a way an oxymoron, a question and an answer both at once, creating friction. On its own, logo-sign is a simple, deliberate imperfection and a straight-forward communication vessel, striving to create a lot with little effort invested.
