Sreed Ebisu T Office Building

Motoki Yasuhara's Sreed Ebisu T Office Building rises as a luminous vertical element within a dense metropolitan streetscape, its slender white form establishing immediate visual dominance through chromatic contrast against the surrounding earth-toned structures and the cerulean expanse of sky above. The architectural composition presents a striking study in verticality, with the building's narrow footprint necessitating an elegant tower form that ascends through approximately ten visible stories, each level articulated by projecting balconies that create a rhythmic horizontal counterpoint to the emphatic vertical thrust. The most distinctive compositional element emerges in the sculptural spiral staircase that winds along the facade's left edge, its sinuous white curves providing organic fluidity against the rectilinear geometry of the stacked floor plates. The chromatic palette achieves sophisticated restraint, with the building's pristine white surfaces reading as titanium white or zinc white against neighboring structures rendered in warm taupe, cool gray, burnt umber, and occasional accents of chartreuse and ochre visible on adjacent facades. Natural illumination arrives from the upper left quadrant, casting gentle shadows that model the projecting balconies and create subtle tonal gradations across the white surfaces while leaving the spiral stair bathed in even, diffused light. The spatial organization demonstrates masterful figure-ground relationships, with the slender tower occupying the compositional center, flanked by contextual buildings that frame and emphasize its distinctive presence. Textural variation enriches the visual field through the contrast between smooth rendered surfaces, transparent glass balustrades, and the rhythmic pattern of vertical baluster elements. The atmospheric quality suggests a clear winter or early spring day, with crisp light and deep blue sky creating optimal conditions for appreciating the architectural form's sculptural qualities and the interplay between solid mass and void.

This project is a nine story office building in central Tokyo that aims to create a new prototype for urban timber architecture. The proposal was a hybrid structure of a steel post and beam frame and timber seismic frames inserted into it. This timber frame, named seismic timber lattice shell, is not only a structural but also an interior element to realize new workspaces where people can work in a more relaxed mode, enjoying the spatial value of the timber construction.
