Nova Pilot Automotive HMI Design

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2024

Arvin Maleki's Nova Pilot Automotive HMI Design presents a commanding interior cockpit environment dominated by a sophisticated dual-screen digital architecture that establishes an immediate visual hierarchy through luminous technological presence against a restrained achromatic palette. The compositional structure follows a dynamic diagonal emphasis, with the expansive central infotainment display positioned at the golden section intersection, commanding approximately one-third of the visual field while the driver's instrument cluster creates a secondary focal point through its rectilinear geometry and cool cyan accent illumination. The chromatic analysis reveals a masterfully controlled palette: the interior surfaces exhibit gradations of warm pearl gray and cool slate, punctuated by the rich chromatic diversity of the interface elements themselves—deep atmospheric teals suggesting celestial depth, warm amber notifications reminiscent of sunset horizons, and sophisticated gradients moving from midnight indigo through cerulean to lighter atmospheric blues. The lighting paradigm establishes a naturalistic environmental quality through the expansive windscreen's diffused daylight penetration, creating soft shadows beneath the steering mechanism while the screens themselves function as secondary light sources, casting subtle luminous reflections across adjacent surfaces. Spatial construction employs a sophisticated one-point perspective converging toward the bright exterior visible through the glazing, establishing depth while the floating display appears to hover within the volumetric cabin space. The interface typography demonstrates exceptional legibility through careful weight hierarchies and generous spacing, while iconographic elements employ contemporary flat design conventions with subtle dimensional suggestion through shadow and highlight. The steering wheel presents as a sculptural element, its dual-cutout form creating elegant negative space while integrated controls maintain ergonomic accessibility. Textural contrasts abound: the perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel rim suggests tactile grip, smooth piano-black trim elements reflect ambient light, and the soft-touch dashboard surface reads as yielding yet substantial. Edge treatments throughout maintain crisp precision appropriate to premium automotive craftsmanship, while the overall atmospheric resonance conveys technological confidence, serene capability, and forward-looking sophistication that invites contemplation of harmonious human-machine interaction within the contemporary mobility experience.

Nova Pilot HMI revolutionizes vehicle interaction, blending aesthetic allure with functional sophistication in steering wheel and dashboard displays. Launched in Milan, Italy, the project combines intuitive controls with personalized settings, emphasizing safety and user experience. Through advanced technology and creative design, it enhances the driving experience with a unique identity, offering quick access to essential features and ambient visuals for an enjoyable journey. A testament to innovative automotive design.
