Silver A' Design Award Winner 2024
Shenzhen Plus Architectural Design Co., Ltd's Guangzhou Serene Villa presents a masterfully orchestrated interior composition where the eye first encounters the sweeping curvilinear ceiling element that arcs gracefully across the upper register, its smooth plaster surface interrupted only by three delicate incised lines that trace the flowing geometry like calligraphic strokes suspended in architectural space. This dramatic overhead feature establishes a dynamic counterpoint to the predominantly rectilinear vocabulary below, creating visual tension resolved through the harmonious integration of horizontal and vertical elements throughout the living area. The chromatic palette operates within a sophisticated tonal range of warm neutrals, spanning from pale cream through soft taupe to deeper charcoal accents, with strategic insertions of natural wood tones in honey and amber providing organic warmth against the predominant minerite grays. The modular sectional sofa in ivory linen anchors the foreground, its generous proportions and plush cushioning softened by cognac-brown velvet accent pillows that introduce chromatic variety while maintaining tonal cohesion. Two coffee tables of contrasting character occupy the central zone, one featuring dark veined marble with geometric faceting, the other a hexagonal form in matte black, their angular geometries conversing with the organic ceiling curve above. The middle ground reveals an elevated tea ceremony platform with a live-edge wooden slab table supported by a black marble plinth, arranged before a spectacular vertical screen of slender wooden slats that filter natural illumination from concealed fenestration beyond. This slatted partition creates a luminous scrim effect, transforming afternoon light into a contemplative glow while displaying carefully curated ceramic vessels and sculptural objects on floating shelves. The spatial composition employs asymmetrical balance, with the dining area visible to the right featuring dark-stained wooden furniture that provides visual weight counterbalancing the lighter tones predominating leftward. Recessed ceiling fixtures provide ambient illumination supplemented by the warm glow emanating from backlit niches, establishing a lighting paradigm that suggests late afternoon golden hour rendered through architectural intervention rather than temporal accident.
Guangzhou Serene is a villa interior design covering an area of 795 square meters. Natural materials such as wood, travertine and leather are combined with low saturation tones of dark grey and brown. Geometric cut outs and lines replace traditional partition walls, giving the open layout a sense of connection between areas. Floor to ceiling windows bring the garden landscape indoors. Instead of a single main light, light sources are distributed across walls, ceilings and furniture, while linear lighting follows the walking route to add depth.
