Golden A' Design Award Winner 2024
Kris Lin's The Crystal Clubhouse Community Shared Space commands immediate visual attention through its dramatically cantilevered upper volume, a crystalline glass form that projects boldly into the twilight atmosphere with geometric precision evoking the faceted planes of a cut gemstone suspended in architectural space. The composition presents a masterful study in asymmetrical balance, where the angular thrust of the upper structure, clad in expansive curtain wall glazing supported by slender mullions in dark graphite framing, creates a dynamic diagonal vector from lower left ascending toward upper right, counterbalanced by the solid, rectilinear base volume anchored to the ground plane. The chromatic palette orchestrates a sophisticated dialogue between warm amber interior illumination radiating through the transparent envelope and the cool cerulean-to-lavender gradation of the dusk sky, establishing a complementary temperature harmony that amplifies the building's luminous presence. The fenestration system reveals a carefully considered rhythm of vertical divisions, their proportions suggesting both structural logic and aesthetic refinement, while horizontal banding at the intermediate level introduces a secondary compositional register. Foreground elements including manicured hedging in verdant greens, a curved stone water feature with concentric paving patterns, and mature specimen trees with characterful branching silhouettes establish spatial depth through overlapping planes and atmospheric perspective. The lighting paradigm captures the magic hour moment when artificial interior illumination achieves equilibrium with diminishing natural light, creating a luminescent lantern effect that emphasizes the transparency and lightness of the hovering volume against the deepening sky. Surface textures range from the reflective smoothness of glass panels to the matte solidity of cladding materials, creating tactile contrast that enriches visual interest. The overall atmospheric resonance suggests contemporary parametric design sensibilities merged with crystallographic formal language, achieving an effect of technological sophistication tempered by environmental sensitivity and human-scaled landscape integration.
The project aims to establish a community-shared clubhouse to foster social interaction. Featuring amenities such as a tea room, shared library, sunlit swimming pool, gym, and yoga studio, it seeks to deepen family communication and create a healthy community. Inspired by crystal and employing integrated design, the project creates a lightweight and transparent glass building, enhancing space transparency and openness to cultivate a vibrant community atmosphere.
