Client Vs Designers Board Game

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025

Benny Leung's Client Vs Designers Board Game presents a meticulously orchestrated still life arrangement wherein matte gray packaging establishes the compositional anchor at upper left, its understated elegance bearing typographic elements in a sophisticated sans-serif face that reads "CLIENT VS DESIGNERS" with the tagline "A Great Relationship Begins..." positioned beneath, while the lid displays an evocative passage about relationship-building through adversity rendered in delicate white letterforms against the neutral gray substrate. The spatial organization follows a dynamic diagonal thrust from upper left to lower right, with the opened box revealing a pristine white interior populated by twelve circular acrylic tokens, each encapsulating whimsically illustrated character portraits executed in bold black line work against transparent substrates that permit the underlying printed character roster to remain visible through their crystalline surfaces. The chromatic schema operates within an intentionally restrained monochromatic palette dominated by warm grays ranging from cool dove gray to deeper charcoal, punctuated by the stark contrast of black illustrative elements against white grounds, creating a sophisticated high-key tonal environment that speaks to contemporary minimalist design sensibilities. Scattered tokens populate the foreground and middle ground atop what appears to be a printed game board or instruction sheet featuring a grid-based organizational system with labels identifying creative industry roles including "EXECUTIVE CREATIVE DIRECTOR," "JUNIOR DESIGNER," and "ACCOUNT MANAGER," establishing the thematic context of agency hierarchies and client relationships. The lighting environment suggests diffused overhead illumination producing soft, graduated shadows beneath each raised element, with subtle highlight catchlights along the curved edges of the acrylic tokens creating gentle specular accents that emphasize their three-dimensional presence and glossy material quality. The illustrative style of the character portraits demonstrates a charming economy of line, with each figure rendered through minimal but expressive strokes suggesting distinct personality archetypes through variations in hairstyle, accessories, and facial expression, evoking the graphic vocabulary of contemporary character design while maintaining cohesive visual unity across the ensemble.

This is a board game inspired by the stereotypical adversity between clients and designers. With every experience, it is the foundation of a long lasting relationship. The concept originated from the game Animal Chest and it is a playful attempt to illustrate that every great relationship starts from a place of understanding each other. The inspiration comes from some of the key points that might frustrate each side to act as a trap. The key job positions of each side are chosen and given different rankings to battle and overpower each other.
