Monochrome Luxury Villa

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2024

Ml Mimarlik's Monochrome Luxury Villa presents a sophisticated interior living space dominated by an achromatic palette spanning from deep charcoal through middle grays to soft dove tones, punctuated dramatically by the warm amber glow of an active fireplace positioned within a sleek linear hearth at right. The compositional architecture follows a carefully orchestrated diagonal reading pattern, with the eye entering through the textured vertical striations of the left wall paneling, moving across the generous seating arrangement of velvet-upholstered sofas and a leather club chair, before arriving at the commanding presence of the flame-filled fireplace console that anchors the right third of the frame. The spatial construction employs classical one-point perspective with the vanishing point suggested beyond the gridded wooden screen partition that filters natural daylight, creating an atmospheric scrim effect that bathes the middle ground in diffused luminosity. The chromatic strategy demonstrates remarkable restraint, working entirely within a monochromatic gray scale that achieves visual richness through tonal variation and textural differentiation rather than chromatic diversity. Surface treatments create a symphony of materiality: the vertical ribbed wall cladding suggests brushed metal or fluted wood, while the large-format stone veneer behind the fireplace displays organic veining patterns in slate and silver. The fireplace unit itself features vertical black fins beneath a glass-enclosed flame bed, with concealed amber LED underlighting creating a warm aureole that provides the sole chromatic accent against the prevailing cool neutrality. A striking San Pedro cactus introduces organic verticality, its columnar green form providing subtle botanical contrast. The recessed ceiling with cove lighting establishes horizontal counterpoint to the dominant vertical rhythms, while the warm-toned hardwood flooring grounds the composition with natural warmth beneath the plush gray area rug that defines the conversation zone.

Project is located in Istanbul as a 400 m2 private boutique villa in a 1000 m2 land area with 5 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, 6 bathrooms and a private pool at the land area. The main character of the design is simplicity while using monochrome and natural materials. The star design of the project is a wood sliding curtain system which inspired all the design of the project. Using the wood material so much almost all the walls are implemented by wood panels and the main color selected is gray and stones.
