Vermillion and crimson architectural elements command immediate visual attention in Xiagushuyu Commercial Space Design's Beijing Wangfujing Xiyue Shopping Mall, where traditional bracket-and-beam structures rendered in saturated cadmium red cascade downward along both lateral margins of this symmetrically organized interior atrium. The compositional architecture operates on a strict bilateral axis, with twin escalators serving as the central spine drawing the eye through a dramatic perspectival corridor toward a luminous teal-green ceiling grid that provides chromatic counterpoint to the dominant warm palette. Above this processional path, a monumental spherical element suggesting lunar surface texture occupies the upper register, its cratered grey surface bisected by radiating red triangular forms reminiscent of traditional roof eaves. The lighting paradigm combines ambient illumination from the teal ceiling panels with warm accent lighting emanating from rows of cylindrical orange lantern forms suspended at rhythmic intervals along the traditional architectural framework. These pendant elements, executed in translucent amber-orange materials, create vertical punctuation marks that reinforce the downward cascade of structural members. The chromatic harmony operates through bold complementary contrast between the dominant vermillion-orange-red family and the cool teal-cyan accents, generating optical vibrancy that energizes the spatial experience. Spatial construction employs emphatic one-point perspective with the escalator handrails functioning as converging orthogonals directing attention toward the distant vanishing point at composition center. The textural interplay between the perforated lattice screens, smooth metallic surfaces, translucent lantern materials, and the rough cratered surface of the overhead sphere creates rich visual variety. Edge treatment ranges from crisp architectural profiles to softly glowing luminous boundaries where light sources meet surrounding darkness. The overall atmospheric resonance suggests festive celebration merged with cosmic aspiration, traditional craftsmanship elevated through contemporary scale and material innovation.
This project is not just a collection of building, but also a fusion of cultural heritage and innovation. Deeply intertwining traditional culture with modern commercial concepts, the design team has approached the local history and cultural characteristics of Beijing with an innovative mindset, from which the core elements of commercial blocks were extracted to form the themed framework, aiming to make XY Toutiao a new and profound cultural and commercial landmark in Beijing.
