Shenzhen Book Mall Bay Area Branch

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2024

Zhubo Design's Bay Area Branch emerges from an elevated aerial perspective as a masterwork of biomorphic architectural composition, its organic curvilinear forms creating a striking counterpoint to the orthogonal geometry of the surrounding metropolitan fabric. The primary focal point consists of interconnected pavilion structures featuring undulating rooflines rendered in warm cream and soft grey tones, their flowing contours suggesting natural landforms or unfurling leaves against the verdant carpet of carefully orchestrated landscape architecture. The compositional armature follows a sophisticated spiral organization, with the main cultural complex positioned along a gentle S-curve that guides the eye from the lower left foreground through successive zones of programmatic activity toward the expansive waterfront and atmospheric urban skyline in the distance. The chromatic palette establishes a harmonious dialogue between the cool cerulean and slate blue tones of the bay waters, the silvery atmospheric haze enveloping distant towers, and the predominant viridian and emerald greens of the extensively planted public realm. Spatial construction employs classical atmospheric perspective with remarkable subtlety, as buildings progressively lose chromatic saturation and edge definition with increasing distance, culminating in the ethereal silhouettes of high-rise structures partially veiled by morning mist. The lighting paradigm suggests golden hour illumination from an elevated western source, casting gentle shadows that articulate the three-dimensional modeling of architectural volumes while suffusing the entire scene with a luminous warmth. Edge behaviors range from crisp delineation in the foreground architectural elements to progressive softening in the middle ground vegetation and complete dissolution in the atmospheric distance. The integration of a prominent observation wheel at the compositional midpoint creates a vertical accent that punctuates the predominantly horizontal landscape orientation, while tree-lined promenades establish rhythmic repetition guiding pedestrian circulation throughout the verdant public domain.

Architecture is the city and the city is the architecture. While enjoying a wide range of city life, people can also feel the green comfort of birds and flowers, which is more memorable than a single book city and park. Shenzhen Book Mall Bay Area Branch, as a new generation of book city under the new model, will be the building itself as the city to create, trying to guide people to rethink the relationship between culture and life.
