Makina Andras I Watch

Matte black steel dominates the rectangular case of Danilo Villanueva & Makina & Co's Makina Andras I Watch, establishing an assertive geometric presence through its architectural form language that recalls Bauhaus industrial design principles and contemporary minimalist horology. The composition orchestrates visual hierarchy through a sophisticated interplay of concentric circular elements against the rigid orthogonal case structure, creating dynamic tension between curvilinear and rectilinear geometries. The primary dial occupies the upper two-thirds of the face, rendered in graduated charcoal tones that shift from a luminous silvered upper arc through deep graphite, suggesting atmospheric depth within a compressed planar space. Applied hour indices in polished steel establish rhythmic punctuation around the circumference, their dimensional relief catching light to create subtle value gradations. The chromatic strategy deploys a severely restricted palette of anthracite, gunmetal, steel gray, and selective cerulean blue accents on the hour and minute hands, this blue functioning as the sole chromatic intrusion into an otherwise achromatic scheme, generating visual magnetism through complementary temperature contrast against the warm-neutral darks. Makina Watches wanted to design a black sheep in the rectangular watch category that's already full of art deco inspired dress watches. That's why Andras I was born as a sports watch with a bolder and more modern approach. Coated in stealth black, its stainless steel case is composed of slopes and angular shapes that make up its multifaceted design. Its octagonal case is designed to taper around a larger movement for less volume and increased wearability. Its dial is multi-layered and 3 dimensional and its strap is muscular and shapely to look more imposing from every angle.
