HONG Designworks's Chanba Poly Theatre presents a breathtaking interior atrium where architectural ambition converges with chromatic drama, the eye immediately drawn to the monumental crimson sculptural volume that cascades from ceiling to floor in rhythmic vertical pleats resembling theatrical curtains frozen in perpetual unfurling. This vermillion mass, rendered in what appears to be powder-coated aluminum fins or composite louvers, occupies the right third of the composition with commanding presence, its undulating surface catching zenithal light that creates a mesmerizing pattern of warm highlights and cool shadowed recesses across its corrugated face. Above, an extraordinary diagrid space frame of white-painted steel tubular members spans the vast atrium like crystalline lacework, its triangulated geometry creating a tessellated canopy that filters cerulean sky through transparent or translucent glazing panels. The structural lattice demonstrates sophisticated engineering elegance, each node resolving multiple converging members in what suggests a parametrically designed system responding to both structural loads and aesthetic aspirations. The floor plane reflects as polished dark granite or concrete with mirror-like qualities, doubling the visual complexity by capturing ghostly reflections of the overhead structure and creating perceptual depth that extends the spatial volume downward. A white organic-form seating element or planter anchors the foreground, its biomorphic curves providing counterpoint to the angular overhead geometry.
