Ferdinand E Marcos Stadium Sports Facility

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2024

William Jr Ti's Ferdinand E Marcos Stadium Sports Facility presents itself through elevated aerial perspective as a magnificent ovoid architectural form nestled within verdant pastoral landscape, the composition capturing the structure at golden hour when warm peach and lavender tones suffuse the atmospheric gradient of the sky while cool shadows begin to define the volumetric presence of the building mass below. The stadium's distinctive formal language emerges through its continuous curvilinear envelope wrapped in a striking geometric pattern of deep navy blue and crisp white rectangular modules arranged in a dynamic checkerboard-like tessellation that creates visual rhythm and contemporary graphic identity across the facade's sweeping surface. The compositional structure follows a centralized schema with the stadium positioned as the gravitational anchor occupying the middle register, its elliptical footprint creating natural leading lines that guide the eye around its perimeter while the surrounding landscape radiates outward in diminishing bands of green lawns, mature trees, and distant low-rise development. The chromatic orchestration reveals sophisticated interplay between the warm terracotta tones of the athletic track encircling the emerald green playing field at center, the cool blue-white pattern of the exterior cladding, and the soft gradient sky transitioning from peachy coral near the horizon through delicate rose to pale azure overhead. Illumination arrives from multiple sources including natural twilight ambient light washing the scene with gentle warmth while architectural stadium lighting creates bright linear accents along the roofline edge, establishing the temporal moment as transitional dusk when artificial and natural light coexist harmoniously. Spatial construction employs atmospheric perspective with crisp foreground detail in the stadium transitioning to softened distant mountains rendered in blue-violet haze, while the bird's eye viewpoint reveals the complete geometric plan with exceptional clarity including the distinctive open ends of the horseshoe configuration flanked by tall structural towers. Surface textures range from the smooth continuous membrane of the roof canopy to the articulated modular rhythm of the facade panels to the granular synthetic surface of the running track, each material contributing to a coherent material palette expressing contemporary construction technology and athletic function.

This is an open stadium that is an integral part of the community. A stadium that would extend the adjacent park and connect with the university. The southern end of the stadium incorporates a sloping lawn where people could walk up or have picnics and leads to an amphitheater with a magnificent backdrop. This expression of social architecture creates a barrier free stadium that is accessible to everyone. This is both a stadium and a park, a space that does not discriminate. It is social infrastructure that helps bond the community. It is a stadium for the people.
