Warm honey-toned oak shelving dominates the rear wall of Cheng He Interior Design Studio's Forest Living Residential House, establishing an expansive grid of cubicles that rises from floor to ceiling in a rhythmic pattern suggesting both library and living space, the natural wood grain offering organic warmth against the cool industrial palette of exposed concrete surfaces that frame the left-hand stairwell and cylindrical structural columns punctuating the middle ground. The compositional architecture employs a sophisticated asymmetrical balance wherein the dense visual weight of the shelving system on the right is counterpoised by the dramatic double-height void and glazed curtain wall flooding the space with diffused northern light, creating a luminous atmosphere that renders the concrete surfaces in soft dove gray with subtle blue undertones while the timber elements glow with amber and ochre warmth. Two long communal tables crafted from pale ash or maple occupy the central foreground, their clean rectangular forms surrounded by Scandinavian-influenced chairs featuring light wood frames and gray upholstered seats, establishing a rhythm of vertical and horizontal elements that echoes the gridded shelving beyond. Pendant lights in matte black with warm brass accents descend from the exposed ceiling infrastructure on slender cables, their conical forms creating visual anchors that draw the eye downward into the inhabited zone while simultaneously emphasizing the generous ceiling height. Back to the roots is the theme of the design. Since the building is located at the foot of Ali Mountain, a large amount of wood is used as the base, creating a harmonious connection between the interior and exterior. Hometown is deeply ingrained in the mind. The hometown will always be home no matter how long you're away. In the latter half of the journey of life, the homeowner has decided to move back to the hometown. This retirement abode highlights the deep-seated love and longing for the hometown, emphasizing the unbreakable bond with family and the lasting impact it has on life.
