Zhu Haiyan's Shangri-la Shougang Park Hotel Lighting presents a masterful nocturnal architectural composition where industrial heritage converges with contemporary hospitality design through a sophisticated luminous dialogue that transforms an adaptive reuse structure into a beacon of warmth against the deepening blue hour sky. The compositional architecture employs a strong diagonal reading from the monumental glazed curtain wall at left, which rises with commanding verticality, its grid of steel mullions creating a rhythmic geometric armature that reveals the preserved industrial framework within—massive steel trusses, beams, and structural members now bathed in cool atmospheric illumination suggesting twilight or early evening hues of steel blue and subtle violet. This transparent volume occupies approximately two-thirds of the composition's width, its rectilinear geometry softened by a graceful curved roofline that arcs toward the right, creating dynamic tension against the rigid orthogonal grid. The right portion of the composition introduces contrasting materiality through dark bronze or weathered corten cladding arranged in a checkerboard pattern of solid panels and illuminated apertures, each window emitting warm amber light suggestive of interior habitation and hospitality. It has a total construction area of 63,600 square meters and has 283 guest rooms. The lighting of the entire hotel's indoor and outdoor spaces uses LED light sources, and the lighting scene changes with time. The designer uses warm color temperature lighting to create a comfortable light environment for the hotel space.
