Ann Yu's Guangzhou Julong Bay Exhibition Center emerges from the twilight with striking geometric precision, presenting a monumental glass curtain wall that rises in a dramatic triangular profile against a gradient sky transitioning from deep ultramarine at the zenith through cerulean to a warm amber horizon glow. The architectural composition establishes a compelling dialogue between transparency and opacity, as the expansive steel-framed glazing system reveals the intricate skeletal structure of white-painted steel trusses and diagonal bracing members that create a complex web of intersecting lines within the luminous interior volume. The lower register grounds this ethereal superstructure with a horizontal datum of warm terracotta brick arranged in an openwork pattern that allows interior illumination to filter through as golden pinpoints and linear striations, suggesting warmth and human presence. Mature deciduous trees frame the composition on both lateral edges, their delicate silhouettes providing organic counterpoint to the rigid geometry of the built form while young specimen trees with supporting stakes punctuate the foreground lawn. The chromatic palette achieves sophisticated harmony through the juxtaposition of cool atmospheric blues, warm brick tones ranging from burnt sienna to raw umber, the neutral silver-gray of the structural steel, and the amber glow of interior lighting that suggests a welcoming sanctuary. Two human figures stand in conversation at the base of the structure, their diminutive scale emphasizing the monumental proportions while activating the threshold zone between exterior landscape and interior program. The warehouse building space has a single original function and a simple structure.The functional requirements for the connectivity of the exhibition hall were met by the addition of a steel and glass roof over the three separate buildings of the old building to create a coherent use and spatial field.
The structure and materials of the four separate factory buildings on the original site have been retained to the greatest extent possible, with the main material used in the new section being replica industrial red bricks.
