Fushan Ecology Greenway Design

Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2023

Tengyuan Design's Fushan Ecological Greenway Design presents a breathtaking architectural intervention nestled within a densely forested mountainous terrain, where an extraordinary multi-tiered observation tower rises as the compositional fulcrum, its oxidized copper-toned structural framework creating a striking visual dialogue with the surrounding verdant landscape. The tower's geometric armature employs an intricate system of diagonal bracing members that ascend in a spiraling rhythm, each level featuring cantilevered viewing platforms wrapped in transparent glazing that maximizes visual permeability while maintaining structural integrity. A singular elevated pedestrian bridge extends horizontally from the tower's upper reaches toward the adjacent hillside, creating a powerful linear vector that bisects the composition and establishes dynamic asymmetrical balance. The chromatic orchestration demonstrates masterful restraint, with the warm sienna and burnt orange tones of the weathering steel structure providing temperature contrast against the cool viridian, sage, and hunter green palette of the coniferous forest canopy that blankets the undulating terrain. The atmospheric conditions suggest either dawn or dusk, evidenced by the soft lavender and shell pink gradations in the overcast sky that suffuse the entire scene with diffused, ambient illumination without harsh directional shadows. Spatial construction operates through atmospheric perspective, with successive mountain ridges receding in progressively lighter values and cooler temperatures toward the horizon, establishing considerable depth within the landscape format. The compositional schema follows an approximate golden section placement, with the tower positioned at the left third intersection while the bridge creates a strong horizontal that divides the upper atmospheric zone from the terrestrial forest below. Textural interplay emerges between the industrial precision of the steel lattice and the organic softness of the tree canopy, creating a harmonious tension between human intervention and natural environment that speaks to contemporary biophilic design principles and sustainable landscape architecture practices.

The design comes from the pinecone that can be seen everywhere on Fushan Mountain, which means rebirth and hope. Two paths to satisfy different people. The steps of the inner ring are suitable for a fast pass, and the ramps of the outer ring are suitable for strolling and sightseeing. The two paths converge on the viewing platform at the top, where people can enjoy a wonderful 360 degree visual experience. The project adopts renewable materials, low carbon technology, and assembly technology, which fully reflects the design concept of green, ecological, and open.
