Flava Plywood and Veneer Showroom

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2023

Warm honey-toned timber veneer panels command the upper register of Silambarasan Ganapathy's Flava Plywood and Veneer Showroom, their faceted geometric forms descending from the ceiling like crystalline formations caught mid-growth, each angular plane articulated by crisp linear LED illumination that traces the seams between surfaces with luminous precision. The compositional architecture employs a dynamic asymmetrical balance, with the sculptural ceiling installation occupying approximately two-thirds of the visual field and establishing a powerful diagonal thrust from upper left toward the center-right, where the faceted wood forms converge in a cascading arrangement that evokes geological strata or origami-inspired folding. The chromatic palette demonstrates sophisticated restraint, anchoring the composition in a triadic relationship between the dominant golden oak and tawny birch tones of the veneer surfaces, the cool neutral grays of the walls and architectural elements, and the sage green upholstered seating that provides chromatic relief in the lower foreground. Luminosity operates through multiple registers: the primary linear fixtures embedded within the ceiling structure create a constellation of glowing edges that map the geometric framework, while supplementary track-mounted spotlights provide focused accent illumination, and a dramatic pentagonal aperture in the right-side wall admits natural daylight that washes across the angular wall installation in graduated warmth. Spatial construction employs one-point perspective drawing the eye toward the reception desk positioned at the composition's midground terminus, while the aggressive three-dimensionality of the ceiling installation deliberately disrupts the conventional horizontal plane, creating a sense of dynamic compression and expansion. Surface textures oscillate between the natural wood grain visible in the veneer panels suggesting warm tactility, the matte finish of the gray walls providing visual rest, the ribbed vertical element at left introducing rhythmic linear pattern, and the polished reflective floor that mirrors the ceiling drama above. The atmospheric register suggests a refined commercial environment that transforms material display into immersive spatial experience, inviting contemplation of wood as both functional medium and aesthetic statement.

A mix of segregation and connectivity. Keeping the openness of the floor intact, all feature elements are strategically planed to create series of discussion pockets. The store is designed on fractal behavior that explores the concept for sequencing the space that is both immersive and sculptural. The space promotes a very strong sense of design while leaving a stage for the products that are being displayed.
