Golden A' Design Award Winner 2023
Pristine titanium white volumes thrust skyward in a dramatic sculptural composition that defines Revano Satria's Il Pausa House Private Home, where angular geometric planes intersect and overlap to create a dynamic architectural silhouette against the soft cerulean gradation of twilight sky. The residence presents itself as a study in deconstructivist formal vocabulary, with sharply cantilevered roof elements extending in opposing diagonal trajectories that suggest folded paper or crystalline mineral formations frozen in elegant motion. The compositional architecture follows an asymmetrical balance wherein the upper volumetric mass projects leftward while the lower horizontal datum provides grounding stability, creating visual tension resolved through the central axis of an illuminated ceremonial staircase. This staircase, flanked by linear LED lighting that traces each tread in warm amber luminosity, establishes the primary visual corridor drawing the eye inexorably from the cobblestone street level through the shadowed entrance portal into the luminous interior beyond. The chromatic palette achieves remarkable restraint, dominated by cool whites ranging from pure titanium to subtle warm cream tones where artificial illumination washes across surfaces, punctuated dramatically by a deep navy or Payne's gray accent wall at the left base that provides necessary visual weight and chromatic counterpoint. Verdant cascading vegetation softens the geometric severity along the perimeter walls, introducing organic textural relief through hanging plants whose delicate fronds catch the golden uplighting in feathery silhouette. A solitary figure positioned at right provides essential human scale, her dark silhouette creating a repoussoir element that anchors the composition while emphasizing the monumental proportions of the architectural achievement. The fenestration reveals interior volumes through expansive floor-to-ceiling glass, offering glimpses of warmly illuminated domestic space and a spherical sculptural object bearing chromatic surface treatment that introduces an unexpected accent of saturated hues. The lighting paradigm masterfully orchestrates artificial and natural crepuscular illumination, with warm interior glow emanating through transparent surfaces while cool twilight bathes the white volumes in subtle blue-violet undertones, creating atmospheric depth and temporal specificity. Surface articulation maintains crisp, hard-edged geometric precision throughout, with seamless transitions between planar elements suggesting advanced construction methodology and meticulous material refinement.
The Il Pausa House demonstrates a strong interplay between accessibility, efficiency ad productivity, in all its aspects. Evidenced through the geometric morphology of the design, as well as the relationships and correlations between the internal spaces, extending to the design of the structure and the integration of natural sunlight throughout and its impact on the house's habitation. Despite a beautifully designed interior, and a harmonious selection of material, the standout feature is the house's grand entrance off of street level, delicately splitting the pedestrian’s view.
