Circle Xinqiao Expatriate Children School

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2023

Huang Fan's The Circle Xinqiao Expatriate Children School emerges in this aerial twilight rendering as a masterwork of contemporary educational architecture, its sweeping elliptical form commanding the composition's central axis while establishing a powerful dialogue between built environment and surrounding landscape. The architectural complex presents as a continuous curvilinear structure, its white-clad facades creating a luminous ring that encircles verdant athletic fields rendered in alternating bands of emerald and sage green, suggesting freshly maintained turf under evening illumination. The compositional armature employs a sophisticated orbital geometry, with the building's sweeping arc creating dynamic centripetal energy that draws the eye inward toward the central recreational core while simultaneously radiating outward toward the encompassing urban fabric. The chromatic palette operates in carefully orchestrated thermal contrasts: warm amber and tangerine accent lighting emanates from interior spaces and arterial roadways, creating rivers of golden luminosity against the prevailing cool blue-gray atmospheric envelope that suffuses the distant mountain silhouettes and twilight sky. The building's multi-level terracing introduces rhythmic horizontal banding, with ribbon windows punctuating the pristine white surfaces and rooftop gardens providing organic counterpoint to the architectural geometry. Atmospheric perspective achieves remarkable sophistication, with successive planes of mountains dissolving into increasingly desaturated blue-violet hazes that suggest infinite recession. The lighting paradigm captures the magical transitional moment between day and night, quando illumination from within architectural spaces competes with fading natural light, creating a luminous quality that suggests both sanctuary and beacon. Shadow behavior remains subtle given the ambient twilight conditions, yet the building's volumetric complexity is articulated through gentle tonal gradations across its curving surfaces. The surrounding context reveals thoughtful urban integration, with tree-lined boulevards radiating from the campus and residential districts nestled within forested parcels, suggesting harmonious coexistence between institutional architecture and domestic scale.

As the first international school in Hefei Airport New Area, it integrates the eastern philosophy of equality into architectural form and living conditions. In response to the large park and lake view on the west side, as well as the oval shape of the site, the building opens to the park in an embracing gesture. It innovatively makes all kinds of school life revolve around the central dynamic space. The school consists of two parts: the kindergarten is a separate building because it was built last; the middle school and primary school are in one building, surrounding the playground.
