Chalets Dada Residential Building

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2022

Chalets Dada Residential Building by Joy Alexandre Harb presents a striking contemporary alpine architecture rendered against an expansive pastoral landscape, where the compositional architecture employs a classical horizontal tripartite division with the structure positioned along the lower third intersection of a golden ratio grid, creating dynamic tension between the monumental sky occupying approximately sixty percent of the picture plane and the verdant meadow establishing a grounded earthbound foundation. The chromatic palette orchestrates a sophisticated dialogue between warm natural wood tones ranging from honey amber to rich caramel, cool slate gray cladding panels suggesting zinc or fiber cement materiality, and the deep forest green of surrounding deciduous and coniferous vegetation punctuated by autumnal gold accents in the foliage at left. The building mass articulates through a series of gabled volumes with asymmetrical pitched rooflines creating a rhythmic skyline silhouette that echoes vernacular chalet typologies while embracing contemporary minimalist expression through clean geometric fenestration patterns featuring expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing that dematerializes the boundary between interior domesticity and exterior landscape. Light conditions suggest late afternoon golden hour with warm directional illumination raking across the meadow from the right, casting long gentle shadows and creating luminous highlights on the vertical timber slat screens that function as both solar shading and visual rhythm-making devices on the building facade. The spatial construction employs atmospheric perspective with snow-capped mountain ranges dissolving into soft blue-gray haze at the distant horizon, establishing remarkable depth through successive planes of landscape recession from the sharp foreground grass textures through the architectural middle ground to the ethereal alpine backdrop. Surface texture analysis reveals deliberate material contrast between the rough-hewn stone base courses providing visual anchoring and tactile earthiness, the smooth precision of the metal-clad upper volumes suggesting technological sophistication, and the warm linearity of the timber elements contributing organic warmth and human scale. Edge behavior demonstrates careful calibration between the hard geometric precision of the architectural silhouette against sky and the softer organic boundaries where vegetation meets structure, creating a harmonious integration of built and natural environments that characterizes the finest examples of contextual contemporary residential design.

The basic geometrical design was inspired by a child's scribbling when he was asked to create a house. A play between solids, voids and materials was experimented in order to have the final result Located in the high highlands of Lebanon's Faraya Resorts, Chalets Dada exemplify beauty and luxury. The composition is built on the foundation of a ground level hosting one large apartment bordered by a flower garden. Two unusual duplexes are stoned with Terrazzo on the first and attic floors.
