Golden A' Design Award Winner 2022
A clear glass bottle with distinctive angular shoulders stands against a soft gray background, its rectangular form catching subtle light that creates gentle reflections along the faceted edges and ribbed sides. The primary visual focus centers on an elaborate cream-colored label dominating the bottle's front face, featuring intricate indigo blue illustrations rendered in a traditional engraving style reminiscent of nineteenth-century European printmaking traditions. The compositional hierarchy moves vertically from a circular medallion at the neck bearing crossed axes and the date 1867, through the main label where majestic mountain peaks rendered in fine crosshatching rise above detailed depictions of plums with their characteristic dimpled surfaces and curving leaves. Typography plays a commanding role with "ZBOJNICKA" rendered in bold dimensional letterforms that appear to be gilded or gold-toned, creating warm contrast against the cool ultramarine illustrations. The lower portion presents "SLIVOVICA" in clean sans-serif capitals against an indigo banner, grounded by an elegant signature and technical specifications. The overall chromatic scheme operates on a sophisticated complementary dialogue between warm amber-gold typographic elements and cool blue-violet illustrative work, unified by the neutral cream ground. The bottle's transparency allows the composition to feel luminous and light while the natural cork stopper with its dark wooden cap introduces an organic warmth at the apex. Stylistically, the design evokes Central European folk art traditions merged with Victorian-era commercial illustration, the dense ornamentation suggesting abundance, craftsmanship, and heritage authenticity. The figure-ground relationship maintains careful balance between decorative density and breathing space, preventing visual overwhelm while conveying richness. Light enters diffusely from the upper left, casting a soft shadow to the lower right that grounds the floating composition, while internal reflections through the glass create subtle luminosity suggesting the clear spirit within.
The Treasure of Zbojniks is a label design for Zbojnicka fruit distillates. Zbojnicka in Slovak means belonging to a Zbojnik. Zbojniks were robbers who took part in insurgencies against serfdom, and people believed that they hid treasures in the Slovak mountains. The label presents the distillates as the treasure of Zbojniks. Velky Rozsutec mountain is shown at the top, and Slovak ornaments from different regions frame the design. Engraving-styled illustrations are printed in two colors on matte cream paper with a soft texture. The product name is applied with gold embossing.
