NamKwong Diehu Center Complex

Nam Kwong Diehu Center Complex by Peng Architects Inc. commands the viewer's attention through twin sculptural towers that rise in sinuous helical forms against a luminous cerulean sky punctuated by wispy cirrus formations, their undulating white horizontal fins creating rhythmic striations that evoke the organic geometry of seashells or the layered growth patterns of natural crystalline structures. The compositional architecture employs a subtle asymmetrical balance with the left tower slightly shorter and more cylindrical while the right tower presents greater vertical extension and more pronounced serpentine curvature, their forms leaning toward one another in the upper registers as if engaged in architectural dialogue. The chromatic palette maintains remarkable restraint, dominated by pristine titanium white and soft pearl gray tones of the louvered facades interspersed with verdant emerald green vegetation cascading from integrated planters that punctuate the horizontal banding at irregular intervals. The golden hour illumination casts warm highlights along the western-facing curves while cooler shadows pool in the eastern recesses, creating sophisticated chiaroscuro modeling that emphasizes volumetric complexity. Spatial construction utilizes atmospheric perspective with a distant urban skyline rendered in soft blue-gray silhouette establishing depth, while the foreground presents a landscaped plaza with mature deciduous trees and pedestrian activity suggesting human scale against monumental architecture. The towers emerge from a unified podium structure featuring similar horizontal articulation but with more transparent glazed sections visible at ground level. Surface textures alternate between the apparent smooth glass of curtain wall systems and the crisp linear shadows cast by projecting horizontal elements suggesting aluminum or composite cladding. Edge behavior demonstrates remarkable softness where the towers meet sky, their profiles gently dissolving into atmospheric haze at their pinnacles where crystalline glazed crowns catch direct sunlight creating brilliant specular highlights.

Located in the CBD area of the city, the project is next to Diehu Lake, the main landscape of the central axis. Taking advantage of the natural landscape of Diehu Lake, the twin towers are inspired by the form of a butterfly. With the objective of the backyard of Shanghai and Qidong Citizens' Leisure Circle, as well as a great healthy ideal community, the complex will become a healthy community featuring ecological residences with fitness parks. The project integrates a new lifestyle and opens a new chapter in Qidong with a butterfly form to express the inheritance of the times.
