AURUM genuine gold leaves Gold Leaves Packaging

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021

Wong Ka Wai's Aurum Gold Leaves Packaging commands immediate visual attention through its masterful orchestration of opulent materiality and sophisticated chromatic restraint, presenting a rectangular box structure positioned centrally upon a tiered cylindrical pedestal of lustrous white Carrara-veined marble crowned with a warm burnished gold band, the entire tableau set against a dramatic backdrop of intersecting diagonal gold bars forming a dynamic chevron pattern against profound black negative space that creates theatrical spatial depth through geometric repetition and luminous metallic contrast. The packaging itself demonstrates extraordinary surface articulation through undulating organic striations rendered in gradations spanning deep charcoal black through warm umber, antique bronze, and luminous gold leaf, these sinuous topographic contours flowing diagonally across the box face in a manner suggestive of geological stratification, aerial landscape cartography, or the natural patterns found in agate cross-sections, creating a tactile visual texture that oscillates between the organic and the refined. A centrally positioned square gold plaque bearing elegantly spaced serif typography anchors the composition with classical restraint, its pristine geometric form providing calculated contrast against the flowing organic patterning surrounding it. The chromatic architecture operates within a deliberately constrained yet sumptuous palette of warm metallics against cool neutrals, with antique gold, burnished bronze, and champagne tones creating thermal warmth against the cool grey-veined marble and the absolute black environmental surround. Illumination appears carefully controlled as soft directional lighting from an elevated frontal-left source, creating subtle gradations across the curved marble surfaces while activating the metallic elements with controlled specular highlights that suggest material preciousness without harsh glare. The compositional structure follows bilateral symmetry along the vertical axis while the diagonal background elements introduce dynamic energy that prevents static formality, the rule of thirds positioning the product at optimal visual intersection points. Spatial construction employs atmospheric perspective through the graduated darkness of the background and overlapping planes created by the architectural gold framework, establishing clear foreground, middle-ground, and background zones that situate the product within a theatrical presentation environment suggestive of high-end retail or museum display contexts. The surface treatment reveals meticulous attention to material differentiation, with the smooth cool polish of marble contrasting against the warm metallic sheen of gold bands and the complex textured surface of the packaging itself, where raised linear striations create actual tactile dimension. Edge treatment varies strategically, with crisp hard edges defining the geometric gold elements and softer gradational transitions within the organic patterning of the box surface, this variation creating visual hierarchy and directing attention toward the central brand identification element.

Aurum is a gift box designed for edible gold leaf. The packaging presents a raw material as a premium retail product. The box structure refers to jewelry packaging. An anodized golden metal plate with the engraved brand name seals the box and works as a magnetic lock. Textured paper, gold foil stamping and spot UV form the outer surface. A ribbon in the top layer holds a bespoke tweezer, so the very light gold leaf can be picked up easily. A translucent sheet protects the gold leaf below. The box measures 88 by 90 by 65 millimeters.
