Moose Piss Beer

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021

Bruno Cintra's Moose Piss Beer presents a strikingly contemporary illustration centered upon a beverage can rendered with exuberant chromatic vitality and playful graphic sensibility, the aluminum vessel commanding the compositional hierarchy as it rises monumentally against a graduated violet-to-lavender atmospheric field suggestive of twilight or fantastical dreamscape conditions. The can surface displays a complex layered illustrative program combining multiple character vignettes within a compartmentalized visual architecture, the upper register featuring bold sans-serif typography in warm cream and golden yellow hues spelling out the product nomenclature with deliberate quirky letterform manipulation including integrated decorative elements. A wavy yellow pattern band encircles the can's shoulder zone creating visual rhythm and textural interest through serpentine line repetition. The central pictorial field presents a framed portrait of a warmly rendered orange-toned character with expressive features including half-lidded red eyes and visible teeth suggesting sardonic amusement, this figure contained within a rectilinear window that functions as a label-within-label compositional device. Flanking this central medallion, elongated figurative elements in cool cerulean and periwinkle blues depict stylized humanoid forms with exaggerated proportions and whimsical anatomical interpretations, their sinuous bodies wrapping around the cylindrical surface in continuous narrative fashion. The environmental staging positions the can amid illustrated mountainous terrain rendered in soft lavender, pale rose, and cream tones with decorative botanical elements including stylized foliage in warm orange-amber at lower left and violet-tinged feather or leaf forms at right. Floating cumulus cloud forms in cream white punctuate the purple gradient sky, establishing depth through atmospheric layering while maintaining the flattened decorative aesthetic consistent with contemporary illustration practice. The chromatic harmony operates through a sophisticated split-complementary schema pivoting on violet-purple dominance with strategic warm accents in orange, yellow, and amber creating focal emphasis and temperature contrast that guides visual attention. Edge treatment throughout maintains crisp graphic definition with controlled line weights establishing hierarchy between outlined contour drawing and filled color fields, the illustrative style suggesting affinities with contemporary character design, street art influences, and craft beverage visual culture.

The project was elaborated to promote Moose Piss beer, created through the collaboration of Hermoso Compadre and Nordic brewery. The purpose of the animation was to tell a playful story of how the beer was supposedly created. A modern style of illustration was used, with strong colors that emphasize the humorous purpose of the work. It was done using the traditional frame-by-frame technique, to give more life and personality to the characters.
