Kohan Ceram Central Office Building Mixed-Use

Warm terracotta brick dominates Hooman balazadeh's Kohan Ceram Central Office Building Mixed-Use facade, presenting an architectural composition of remarkable geometric complexity where perforated masonry screens create a rhythmic interplay of solid and void across the entire vertical surface, the chromatic field unified in earthy burnt sienna and raw umber tones suggesting sun-baked clay and ancient building traditions translated into contemporary form. The compositional architecture follows an asymmetrical grid logic where rectangular apertures of varying proportions punctuate the brick surface at irregular intervals, creating a dynamic visual rhythm that avoids monotony while maintaining coherent material unity, the openings functioning as negative spaces that reveal glimpses of verdant foliage and shadowed interiors beyond. Circular perforations arranged in precise orthogonal patterns across the brick panels establish a secondary textural layer, these geometric punctures permitting filtered daylight penetration while casting intricate shadow patterns that shift throughout the day, the perforation density varying between panels to create zones of greater and lesser transparency. The spatial construction operates on multiple planes simultaneously, with projecting brick volumes creating shallow recesses and protruding balconies that articulate the facade into a three-dimensional relief, the interplay of advancing and receding surfaces generating rich shadow play under what appears to be bright directional daylight from an elevated angle. A solitary human figure visible within one central opening provides essential scale reference, their presence humanizing the monumental brick expanse while demonstrating the building's function as inhabited space, the figure appearing contemplative as they engage with something held in their hands. Vegetation emerges from multiple apertures and the lower frame, the fresh green providing chromatic complement to the dominant warm brick tones, suggesting biophilic design integration where nature penetrates the architectural boundary. The edge treatment maintains crisp geometric precision throughout, the brick coursework displaying meticulous craftsmanship in both the standard masonry and the circular-perforated specialty units, the material's inherent texture creating optical variation across the otherwise unified surface.

This project is the headquarters for Kohan Ceram Brick Manufacturing Company, including showroom, sales office, and a guest unit. Situated alongside a highway in Tehran, this project marks the boundary between the residential neighborhood and the freeway in the urban fabric. The main criterion was to remain neutral in the urban scale while creating a tangible entity in the local scale. The brick were used as the main representative of the company. The brick module not only forms the façade, but also forms the entirety of the project both on the interior and the exterior.
