Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021
Fong Lok Kee Rocky's Eggshell Montage Animation presents an extraordinary aerial perspective that transforms landscape into living organism, with the central ovoid formation commanding the composition's gravitational center through its concentric rings of viridian, cerulean, and ochre that spiral inward like geological strata or the growth rings of an ancient tree, creating a mesmerizing focal point positioned slightly right of center according to classical compositional principles. The chromatic palette demonstrates remarkable sophistication, dominated by an analogous harmony of blue-greens ranging from deep teal to luminous turquoise, punctuated by warm accents of raw sienna, burnt orange, and golden ochre that provide essential temperature contrast and visual punctuation across the undulating terrain. The compositional architecture employs organic curvilinear forms that flow diagonally from upper left to lower right, establishing dynamic movement while the concentric oval creates a stabilizing centripetal force that anchors the visual energy. Textural variation achieves remarkable depth through the juxtaposition of smooth aqueous passages suggesting water bodies against the hatched, striated patterns indicating terraced agricultural formations or natural geological folding. Small white elements scattered throughout the composition, possibly suggesting birds in flight or architectural structures, create rhythmic punctuation and scalar reference that emphasizes the vast aerial perspective. The lighting suggests diffused atmospheric illumination without harsh shadows, contributing to the dreamlike quality of the vista. Edge treatment varies purposefully between soft, feathered transitions in the aqueous zones and more defined linear elements in the terraced passages. The work demonstrates affinities with both traditional landscape painting traditions and contemporary digital art practices, synthesizing the meditative qualities of classical Eastern scroll painting with the precision of contemporary motion graphics.
For each of these pieces in this video montage, designer focused on the ambience of the scenes. He wished to create a sense of "flowing", like "running water" in the river, by looping the movement of the objects in a fluent way and built an atmosphere which the audience could immerse their emotions in. For most of the pieces, designer made the shot very wide. Most of the objects were very small and far. Designer wished the audience could have the feeling that they were standing right inside the scene when they were watching it.
