FTA Group's Tianjin Zarsion Exhibition Center emerges from the twilight landscape as a sweeping organic form, its dramatic curvilinear roof describing an elegant arc reminiscent of a descending wing or the gentle slope of a hillside rendered in architectural terms, with standing seam metal cladding in deep charcoal-grey creating rhythmic vertical striations that radiate outward from the structure's apex like the ribs of a great leaf or the pleats of a folded fan, the entire roof membrane appearing to hover weightlessly above an extensive glazed curtain wall system that wraps the building's perimeter, revealing warmly illuminated interior spaces where soft amber and cream tones contrast dramatically with the cool blue-grey atmosphere of the exterior environment, the composition captured during the blue hour when ambient daylight has receded to a muted periwinkle-violet sky bearing soft stratocumulus clouds, creating a tonal harmony between built form and atmospheric envelope, the foreground landscape articulated through carefully composed elements including manicured lawn rendered in deep sage and olive tones still glistening with recent rainfall, irregular stepping stones of pale grey concrete describing organic pathways that wind through the garden approach, young deciduous trees with delicate branching silhouettes, and ornamental plantings in terracotta and bronze autumnal hues, the reflective wet surfaces of the hardscape capturing ambient light and creating luminous accents that punctuate the otherwise subdued palette, the building's horizontal emphasis and earth-hugging profile establishing a dialogue between architecture and landscape that suggests principles of organic modernism and biophilic design, the glass transparency creating visual porosity between interior and exterior realms while the commanding roof form provides shelter and spatial definition, uplighting at the building's base creating a subtle glow that emphasizes the cantilever and floating quality of the roof plane.
Architects initially tried to use symbolic architectural language to establish a connection with the historical environment. In terms of layout, the water drop shape is placed diagonally into the site, which not only elongates the moving line from the city interface to the entrance, but also makes the water drop shape more intuitive in front of the eyes. The profound eaves overhang and large area glass applications create a directionless floating roof, which presents a charming tranquility with the swaying shadows of the trees.
