Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021
Brushed stainless steel curves with sculptural elegance as the central service counter of Aak Design Group's The Glare Boutique Shoes Shop commands the foreground, its elliptical form wrapping around a luminous aquamarine glass panel that catches and refracts ambient light with the cool translucency of shallow tropical waters, establishing an immediate dialogue between industrial materiality and liquid transparency. The compositional architecture operates on a sophisticated interplay of curvilinear and angular geometries, with the sweeping organic counter form juxtaposed against the dramatic angular gold-finished metal framework that rises behind it, creating a dynamic tension between soft biomorphic volumes and sharp crystalline facets reminiscent of deconstructivist spatial philosophy. The chromatic palette oscillates between cool metallic silvers and warm aureate yellows, punctuated by accents of cerulean, aquamarine, and occasional bursts of saturated primaries visible through the layered spatial depth—vermillion and cobalt glimpsed in distant display zones adding chromatic vibration to the predominantly cool tonal environment. Overhead, an exposed industrial ceiling reveals ductwork and structural elements in neutral grays, while suspended linear LED fixtures trace geometric paths through the upper register, their cool white illumination mixing with warmer accent lighting to create a complex luminosity gradient that shifts from theatrical brightness at the branded signage to intimate pools of focused retail illumination. The spatial construction employs multiple overlapping planes: the polished concrete floor establishing a neutral ground plane, the curved counter creating a welcoming threshold, the angular gold display structure functioning as a kinetic sculptural screen, and the reflective surfaces multiplying visual depth through mirror effects that extend perceived space infinitely. Surface textures range from the satiny brushed finish of the stainless steel counter base, suggesting cool smoothness to the touch, to the glossy transparency of the aqua glass panels, to the burnished warmth of the gold-toned angular frames. The suspended oval glass canopy above the counter echoes and amplifies the curvilinear motif while introducing yet another transparent layer through which ceiling infrastructure becomes visible, celebrating rather than concealing the mechanical systems above in a gesture toward industrial honesty characteristic of contemporary retail architecture.
The design inspiration comes from the voyage of the universe, hoping to lead customers into an unknown space full of different experiences. The space defines the consumption process as a journey. The Glare not only provides goods but also conveys fashion information. Fashion shops carry the rich and diverse design inspiration behind the products. If we can add more activities to space, this will deepen the consumer experience and at the same time feel the value of fashion design. It is not just a retail store, but also has the functions of sales, education, and exhibition at the same time.
