Sino German Creative Park Four Building

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021

Public Architectural Design Institute's Sino German Creative Park Four Building commands immediate visual attention through its masterful orchestration of material contrasts and volumetric articulation, presenting a striking compositional dialogue between solid masonry masses and a dramatically projecting glazed pavilion that emerges from the brick envelope like a luminous crystal extruding into space. The chromatic palette establishes a sophisticated earth-toned foundation through extensively employed burnt sienna and raw umber brickwork, its surfaces articulated through varied bond patterns ranging from standard running bond to elaborate perforated screens that transform solid walls into delicately filigree membranes filtering light and shadow. The central cantilevered volume, clad in vertical timber battens of warm walnut and chestnut tonalities, creates a thermal chromatic accent against the cooler masonry surround, while the expansive curtain wall glazing introduces reflective steel-blue surfaces that capture atmospheric conditions and sky luminosity. Compositionally, the structure adheres to principles of dynamic asymmetry, with the projecting pavilion positioned slightly left of center and counterbalanced by the extended brick wing at right featuring its distinctive triangular perforated pattern. The horizontal datum of the grass-covered berm in the foreground establishes a verdant base plane of yellow-green and sage tonalities, while the pale cerulean sky occupies the upper register with delicate gradations suggesting late afternoon or early evening golden hour illumination. Spatial recession develops through overlapping planes: the immediate foreground lawn with its singular vertical bollard marker, the building's primary facade at middle distance, and the distant urban silhouette providing atmospheric depth. Edge treatment varies purposefully, with crisp geometric boundaries defining the timber-clad volume against soft gradations where brick meets sky. The architectural language suggests dialogue between contemporary regionalist sensibilities and industrial craft traditions, evoking affinities with thoughtful material-focused practices that honor tactile presence while embracing programmatic innovation.

The design emphasizes the continuity of ecology by blending forests in different terrains to form a natural three-dimensional garden. Through the design techniques of natural landscape and the combination of art and the shape of the earth, the design makes the topography of the whole park full of texture changes, enhances the overall artistry of the park, and highlights the minimalist design concept. With the mix of evergreen and deciduous trees, it creates an ideal display and working environment.
