Be Water Lamp

Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2021

A transparent cylindrical vessel containing what appears to be water suspended horizontally on a minimal metallic framework commands the visual field in Fernando Correa's Be Water Lamp, where luminous energy emanates upward from an LED strip positioned beneath the cylinder, transforming the liquid medium into a dynamic light-refracting element that casts extraordinary caustic patterns across the neutral wall surface behind it. The compositional architecture adheres to classical horizontal emphasis, with the cylindrical form occupying the central register while the rectangular housing unit at left provides asymmetrical counterweight, creating a balanced yet dynamic arrangement that draws the eye along the horizontal axis before lifting it upward through the ethereal light projections. The chromatic palette operates within a refined monochromatic scheme of warm whites, soft grays, and luminous cream tones, with the light itself providing the primary chromatic interest through its interaction with the water's surface, producing values ranging from brilliant white highlights to soft pearl-gray shadows. The illumination paradigm represents a masterful integration of functional and theatrical lighting, where the upward-directed LED source transforms the water into a living optical instrument, generating continuously shifting caustic patterns reminiscent of sunlight filtering through ocean surfaces. Spatial construction employs a compressed foreground-to-background recession, with the lamp positioned parallel to the picture plane while the projected light patterns create an illusion of atmospheric depth through their graduated softness as they rise toward the ceiling. Surface qualities present a sophisticated interplay between industrial precision in the metallic components, optical clarity in the glass cylinder, and the fluid dynamism of the water medium itself. The edge treatment reveals careful attention to transitional zones, with crisp boundaries defining the mechanical elements while soft, diffused edges characterize the projected light patterns. Stylistically, the work resonates with contemporary minimalist design traditions while introducing an element of natural dynamism that distinguishes it from purely geometric approaches, suggesting affinities with kinetic art traditions and the phenomenological investigations of artists exploring light as medium.

Be Water is a linear and modular, recessed, kinetic decorative LED lamp. A hypnotic effect in continuous motion that emulates sunlight reflected on the surface of moving water and projected onto walls, boat keels or under bridges. Available in four different colour variations and inspired by the four elements in nature (Water, Fire, Air and Earth) when combined with room fragrances and relaxation music playlists it offers a multi-sensorial experience. The lamp is suitable for residential, wellness, hotels, restaurants, reception and waiting areas. It's more than a lamp, it's an experience.
