Sberbank Headquarters Atrium

Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2020

Evolution Design's Atrium presents a soaring multistory interior volume captured from an elevated vantage point that establishes a commanding diagonal vector across the composition, drawing the eye from the lower right foreground seating arrangements through the central circulation zone toward the dramatic suspended sculptural installation occupying the compositional heart at mid-height within the towering void. The chromatic orchestration deploys a sophisticated dialogue between organic verdant tones concentrated along the left edge where extensive living walls cascade downward in graduated intensities from chartreuse to deep forest green, warm honey-toned oak flooring that anchors the ground plane with natural warmth suggesting aged amber or sun-bleached driftwood, and the cool silvered metallics of the structural steel framework, suspended walkways, and geometric sculpture that pierce the vertical space with industrial precision. The suspended installation itself commands attention through its crystalline geometric complexity, comprising faceted mirror-clad polyhedra that fragment and multiply reflections of the surrounding environment, creating visual dynamism through repeated angular planes catching light at varying intensities. Zenithal illumination pours through the extensive glazed roof system, establishing a naturalistic top-light condition reminiscent of northern studio light, supplemented by warm artificial accent lighting from pendant fixtures and floor lamps that punctuate the seating zones with intimate pools of golden luminosity against the cooler ambient daylight. The spatial construction employs multiple overlapping planes: the immediate foreground contains curved banquette seating in chartreuse and warm neutrals, the middle ground presents communal worktables and casual meeting zones around a circular architectural element, while the background recedes through transparent glazed office floors stacked vertically, their horizontal banding creating rhythmic striations against the soaring void. The biophilic integration achieves remarkable presence, with the living wall system functioning not merely as decorative element but as a primary compositional anchor balancing the technological precision of the metallic structural elements. Edge behavior varies strategically throughout, with crisp architectural lines defining the steel framework while the organic vegetation creates soft, feathered boundaries that humanize the scale. The overall atmospheric resonance suggests a workplace environment transformed into a verdant urban canyon, where human activity unfolds beneath a canopy of light, steel, and living greenery in harmonious synthesis.

Swiss architecture office Evolution Design in partnership with Russian architecture studio T+T architects has designed a spacious multifunctional atrium at the new corporate headquarters of Sberbank in Moscow. The daylight flooded atrium houses diverse coworking spaces and a coffee bar, with the suspended diamond shaped meeting room being the focal point of the internal courtyard. The mirror reflections, glazed internal façade and the use of plants add the sense of spaciousness and continuity.
