Warm terracotta and raw umber tones establish the chromatic foundation of Serhii Makhno's Shkrub House Residential, where a monumental sculptural fireplace commands the right portion of the composition with its organic, hand-textured surface rising like an ancient earthen vessel toward the ceiling, its irregular undulating form suggesting the primordial craft of adobe construction or the geological formations of eroded cliff faces. The fireplace opening reveals a glowing hearth containing burning logs, the amber and orange flames providing the warmest chromatic accent and the primary light source that casts dancing illumination across the matte gray stone flooring. Behind the substantial taupe-toned modular sofa that occupies the middle ground stretches a floor-to-ceiling wall of weathered wooden shelving, its vertical and horizontal members creating a rectilinear grid that contrasts magnificently with the biomorphic fireplace form. This cabinet of curiosities displays dozens of ceramic vessels spanning various traditions, including amphora shapes, rounded pots, shallow bowls, and decorative plates in earth-toned glazes ranging from ochre through sienna to deep brown, with occasional cream and charcoal pieces providing tonal variation. A rustic wooden ladder leans against the shelving, its diagonal introducing dynamic tension into the otherwise stable compositional architecture. The foreground presents a circular area rug of striking chromatic complexity, featuring an abstract expressionist pattern in ultramarine blue, cerulean, coral red, golden yellow, and deep charcoal that serves as the compositional counterpoint to the surrounding earth palette, its gestural marks suggesting the spontaneity of action painting while its circular format echoes organic forms throughout the space. The spatial organization follows a classical tripartite division with the decorative wall functioning as backdrop, the seating area as middle ground anchor, and the fireplace and rug establishing foreground presence. The Shkrub house appeared out of love and for love — a loving couple with three kids. The DNA of the house includes the structuring aesthetic principles that find inspiration in Ukrainian history and culture inspired by Japanese wisdom.

The element of earth as a material makes itself felt in structural aspects of the home, such as the original thatched roof and in the beautiful and dense textured clay walls. The idea of paying homage, as a founding place, can be sensed throughout the home, like a delicate guiding thread.
