Yun Lu's Haikou West Coast Southern Park Visitor Center commands the aerial perspective with its extraordinary sculptural presence, an undulating white form that spirals organically amidst a verdant tropical landscape, the structure's sinuous curves creating a continuous ribbon that appears to float above the ground plane while simultaneously embracing an interior courtyard garden visible through the central oculus, the compositional architecture establishes a dynamic spiral geometry that echoes natural formations such as nautilus shells or unfurling ferns, with the building's concentric elliptical bands creating rhythmic horizontal striations that read as architectural topography, the chromatic palette juxtaposes the pristine titanium white or pearl-toned cladding of the structure against the deep viridian and olive greens of surrounding palm groves and manicured lawns, while the dramatic sky above presents a masterful study in atmospheric gradation moving from warm golden luminosity at the horizon through bands of slate gray and steel blue storm clouds that provide theatrical counterpoint to the building's serene whiteness, the lighting conditions suggest late afternoon golden hour with warm sunlight raking across the structure's western elevation, casting subtle shadows that articulate the layered roof planes while the eastern portions fall into cooler ambient illumination, spatial construction employs atmospheric perspective with remarkable sophistication as rolling hills, distant water features, and meandering roadways recede into hazy blue-gray distances establishing vast landscape context, the textural treatment distinguishes between the smooth continuous surfaces of the architectural envelope with their precise machine-finished quality and the organic textures of palm fronds, grass, and natural terrain, edge behavior throughout maintains crisp definition where the building meets sky while allowing softer transitions in the landscape passages, stylistically this work participates in the parametric and biomorphic architectural discourse pioneered by practitioners who seek to dissolve boundaries between building and landscape through fluid geometries, the atmospheric resonance evokes wonder and aspiration, suggesting a structure that has emerged from the earth itself as a gesture of welcome and discovery

The visitor center was conceived by MUDA-Architects to blend the indigenous spiritual and cultural heritage by respecting coastal and tropical nature ecology of Haikou. Due to the conspicuous location, it was proposed in a catchy shape of an oval pebble for conforming to the context and becoming a landmark to unfold the cityscape. A mirroring form of the local traditional roof was created as a shelter from the tropical climate. Glass curtain wall installed with undulating sunshades, was adopted for facade to save energy, correspond to the coastal feature and provide spacious view to visitors.
